Karen Richter-Hall graduated from Deering High School in Portland, Maine in 1977 and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Simmons College, Boston in 1981. While applying to Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine, she worked as a laboratory technician at The Children’s Hospital in Boston, as a veterinary technician at The Commonwealth Veterinary Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts, and as an assistant herdsman at a dairy farm in Hardwick, Massachusetts.
In 1993, she graduated from Tufts with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. Returning to Maine, she has practiced veterinary medicine at several hospitals in the greater Portland area including; The Veterinary Centre of Cape Elizabeth, Brackett Street Veterinary Clinic in Portland and most recently at the Freeport Veterinary Hospital. In 1997, she became certified in acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. She has been offering veterinary acupuncture to her patients to treat a variety of ailments, including arthritis and pain management. In the summer of 2008, she left Freeport to start her own practice in her hometown of Pownal. Her husband is named Tom, and they have two beautiful boys, Parker and Mason. They share their home with their dog; Gordon, as well as two stray cats named Jack Hamster, and Charlie.
